Five Rotorua players selected for Poitūkohu Māori Aotearoa
Xanda Marsters, Taiapua Pakaurangi, Ngahirata Jennings-Haumaha, Hawaiki Leach and Hana Lacey travelled to Cairns to take on the Indigenous All Stars.
Five of our members were selected for Poitūkohu Māori Aotearoa and travelled to Cairns, Australia, to play the Indigenous All Stars.
Congratulations to Xanda Marsters, Taiapua Pakaurangi, Ngahirata Jennings-Haumaha, Hawaiki Leach and Hana Lacey. They represented not only Rotorua Basketball, but their whānau and iwi, in a trans-Tasman battle.
Women's game: 78–85
The women played tough. They kept the score close the entire game but went down 78–85.
Aroha Haumaha was Head Coach of the women's team, with Sue Pene assisting.
Men's game: 88–106
The men's game was tough too. The tangata whenua of Australia played at a different pace and kept finding their way to the hoop, while Aotearoa struggled to knock down open threes.
Aotearoa went down 88–106, but the score didn't reflect how good the game was.
