Rotorua's Aidan Tonge honoured for Commonwealth Games achievement
Aidan Tonge helped New Zealand's men's 3x3 team reach the semi-finals and finish fourth at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Rotorua's Aidan Tonge represented New Zealand in men's 3x3 basketball at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Alongside Josh Book, Te Tuhikiterangi Lewis and Christian Martin, Aidan helped New Zealand reach the semi-finals and finish fourth. Their campaign ended with a narrow 18–16 loss to Scotland in the bronze-medal match.

Leading the way
Aidan has come up through New Zealand's 3x3 programme to captain the national side, which adds something extra to wearing the silver fern.

Team first
So much of Aidan's work helps others succeed. In a New Zealand Team feature, teammate Christian Martin described Aidan as the team's point guard, setting others up with screens and assists.
In the speed and pressure of 3x3, that takes communication, understanding and trust. The four teammates live in different cities, with Aidan based here in Rotorua, but they stay close off the court, and it shows on it.
